The 33rd Audencia – La Baule Triathlon is canceled
The current health crisis has affected sports events in France and the rest of the world, and sadly, the triathlon is no exception. While the season was supposed to start a few months ago, its schedule of events was amended so that events could take place at the end of this summer as part of the gradual resumption of sporting activity. But with continuing uncertainty in the sports environment, and in light of government regulations, it was decided to cancel the 33rd Audencia – La Baule Triathlon, scheduled to take place on September 12th and 13th.
The cancellation of the 2020 Audencia – La Baule Triathlon was decided after a meeting of the organizing committee of the event. It ruled on various issues, including the continuous assessment of the risks specific to the organization of an event of this scope, in coordination with the competent health and government authorities. It was the health and safety of all members of our sports community (participants, spectators, volunteers, etc.) that motivated this decision.
Each year since its creation, the Audencia – La Baule Triathlon, which is organized by students, has sold out, with more than 7,000 participants, 70,000 spectators and with the participation of more than 120 companies. The decision to cancel also reflects the need for all stake-holders to focus on the unusually difficult challenges presented by the health crisis over the coming months.
Since two years now, La Baule has made a comeback among the stages of the Grand Prix. In this particular context and in order to offer an attractive circuit to the clubs engaged in 1rst Division, the French Triathlon Federation has chosen the “Coupe de France des Clubs”, planned at Les Herbiers (85), as support for the 3rd stage of the Triathlon Grand Prix. Thus, the new calendar for the 2020 “Triathlon Grand Prix” is as follows: the first stage will be held in Châteauroux on August 22nd, the second in Quiberon on September 05th, and will finish at Les Herbiers on October 03rd.
Sad as we all are about this decision, we very much look forward seeing you in September 2021 for the 34th Audencia – La Baule Triathlon!
About the Audencia Triathlon – La Baule
Founded in 1988, the Audencia – La Baule Triathlon has today become one of the biggest sporting events that brings together amateurs, triathletes, beginners and experienced players of all ages. Hervé Delaunay director of the Organizing Committee, accompanied by 24 students from the Audencia Triathlon association, welcomes each year, through the event, more than 7,000 participants and 70,000 spectators for 11 races, taking place over a weekend September. About the ‘Grand Prix Triathlon’
The GP F.F.TRI. is the French Championship of the Triathlon Clubs 1rst Division. It brings together each year over five stages, the best triathletes in the world at the heart of French clubs. Each stage city can organize elite level races as well as General Public races on the same weekend, accessible to as many people as possible.
